Jul 23, 2016 12:00 AM

Domestic crude oil and natural gas production fell 4.34 per cent and 4.48 per cent, respectively in the month of June 2016, according to data released by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.

Domestic crude oil production stood at 2.966 million tonnes in the month of June 2016 compared with 3.101 mt in the same month last year.

The all-India production drop was due to lower output from ONGC’s offshore fields as well as a drop in Cairn India’s production from Rajasthan.

ONGC’s production from offshore fields fell 3.96 per cent to 1.326 mt, while Cairn India’s Rajasthan field’s output dropped 5.44 per cent to 0.691 mt.

Natural gas production stood at 2.598 billion cubic meter during June compared with 2.720 billion cubic meter in the same month last year.

Natural gas production was also affected by a fall in output from ONGC’s offshore fields. Output from ONGC’s offshore fields fell 4.68 per cent to 1.351 billion cubic meter.

The lower crude oil output also led to 13.1 per cent increase in crude oil imports. During June, crude oil imports stood at 17.667 mt compared with 15.619 mt in the same month last year.

Further, refinery throughput during the month grew 3.51 per cent to 20.167 mt (19.483 mt).
