India reports on crude oil production in April
India's crude oil production fell marginally in April as decline in domestic demand pulled down refinery
production.
Crude oil production at 2.802 mm tons was marginally lower than 2.814 mm tons of April 2004, according to the latest
data released by the petroleum ministry Prime Mumbai High offshore fields produced 1.497 mm tons, 1.6 % lower than
last year.
Oil product consumption fell 5.3 % to 8.88 mm tons in April on back of a similar reduction in diesel, which makes up
for over 35 % of oil product demand consumption.
Natural gas output declined 0.7 % to 2581 mm cm in April this year mainly on account of fall in offshore production.
Crude oil imports fell 2.9 % to 7.78 mm tons as against 8.016 mm tons imported in April 2004.
Petroleum product imports however rose 53.2 % to 667,600 tons as oil firms imported cleaner petrol and diesel to meet
stringent emission norms that came into effect from April 1.
Oil product exports fell 4.3 % to 1.227 mm tons mainly on account of 24.2 % dipin diesel (523,400 tons) and 35 % fall
in petrol (144,500 tons) export.
