Pakistan awards six exploration licenses

The Pakistani government has awarded six licenses to three exploration and production companies for the exploration of oil and gas in the country and agreements to this effect were signed.
Two licenses have been granted to Oil and Gas Development Company (OGDC) for exploration in Laki Rud, District Loralai and Marri East, District Ghotki blocks.

Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) has been awarded two licenses for exploration in Kharan and Kharan east blocks in Balochistan while licenses for exploration in Rajanpur and Dera Ghazi Khan has been granted to Pakistan Oil Fields. The total area of the six blocks is 13,599 sq km.
These three companies will make an investment of $ 25.4 mm in the exploration.

Later, Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Syed Naveed Qamar said that the government has auctioned 37 blocks in different areas of the country for exploration of oil and gas while another bidding round will be held in the month of June to auction more blocks.
The Minister saidthe government is focussing to explore the indigenous natural resources to meet the energy requirements and reduce import bill on the fuel.
