India to help Uganda in developing its oil and gas sector

India has offered to help Uganda develop its oil and gas sector and become a partner in the country's progress.
Indian minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas Murli Deora was on a visit to Uganda. The minister met with Vice President of Uganda Gilbert Balibaseka Bukenya, who sought India's help in developing their oil and gas sector.

Bukenya sought assistance in providing simple and inexpensive means for accelerating the development of different areas along the hydrocarbon value chain. He also expressed hope that India will extend its assistance in the downstream petroleum sector.
He pointed out that the two countries have a lot of similarities as they are striving to improve the lives of their respective citizens. Bukenya said that he was impressed with the fast progress of the Indian rural industries.

Deora, in his turn, offered all possible assistance in the development of Uganda's oil and gas sector of right from upstream to downstream.
"He stated that his delegation has not comejust for business India is not merely looking at business but for becoming a partner in progress," an official release said. Deora said that India was looking towards deepening its relations with Uganda especially in the oil and gas sector.

Uganda's Minister for Energy and Minerals, Hillary Onek said that Africa in general and Uganda in particular are looking for Indian assistance especially in the oil and gas sector as India has the necessary expertise in the field.
The Uganda visit is part of Deora's visit to four African nations namely Sudan, Nigeria, Angola and Uganda for creating a mutually beneficial investment climate for oil and gas companies in India and Africa.
