Iran and Japan signed two memoranda of understanding on cooperation in the field of energy.
Iran's deputy oil minister Mohammad Hadi Nejad-Hosseinian and head of the energy organization at Japanese ministry of economy, trade and industry were signatories to the agreements.

The two sides stressed cooperation in implementing oil, gas, and petrochemical projects. Nejad-Hosseinian said at the inaugural session that Japan is the third largest consumer of oil and the sixth largest consumer of gas in the world, while Iran is the second major oil producer in OPEC.
He said that like other industrial states, Japan is seeking guarantees for its energy resources and Iran is looking for guarantees for a reliable and long-term market for its natural gas and crude oil. The Japanese side stressed continued cooperation in gas and oil fields as well as full development.
