Oil and gas revenue is critical to Indonesian economy

Chief Economics Minister Dorodjatun Kuntjoro-jakti said oil and gas will continue to play a significant role in the state budget over the next several years.
The country has become a net importer of oil in the past year, as domestic production falls and consumption rises.

Dorodjatun said the country has a reserve of around 1 bn barrels of oil, therefore, there is no cause to worry about the contribution of oil and gas to the state budget in the future.
He said at present oil and gas account for 20 % of the state revenues, and the contribution could be maintained with new oil and gas fields in a number of locations.
