EGAT invests 300 mm THB on new power station in Phuket
The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) will inject 300 mm THB into a new high-voltage power station
to be built soon in Phuket in response to future expansion of tourism on the island.
Phuket Governor, Mr Wichai Phraisa-ngop said the project has already been approved by the Cabinet and is currently
under environmental impact assessment and public hearing. The assessment will ensure clarity and the maximum benefit
for locals.
The power station, once completed, will help stabilize the power supply in the southern region, particularly on
Phuket Island.
At present the power demand in Phuket is around 300 MW and is expected to rise by 6.7 % a year as a result of growing
number of tourists, real estate, and industries.
