India discusses proposals for gas exports and pipeline
India has said that proposals for exports of gas from Bangladesh and a pipeline to transport gas from Myanmar to
India are under discussion.
"In the context of continuously rising international petroleum prices and growing demand in India, a number of
proposals have been mooted," External Affairs Ministry spokesman Navtej Sarna said. Proposals for the export of gas
from Bangladesh and a pipeline to transport gas from Myanmar to India were under discussion in the relevant
ministries and departments and "these are being considered", he said.
Asked whether the External Affairs Ministry had shot down a proposed visit to Bangladesh by Petroleum Minister Mani
Shankar Aiyar to initiate talks on the proposed Myanmar-India gas pipeline, Sarna was noncommittal.
"It is not usual either for me to know or divulge all inter-ministerial correspondence that takes place."
