Central Financial support is also given to the State Government for identification of new potential sites including survey and preparation of DPRs and renovation and modernization of old small hydro power (SHP) projects.
So far, 847 SHP projects with an aggregate capacity of 3,197 MW have been set up and 356 projects aggregating to 1,045 MW are under implementation in the country.

In the State of Uttar Pradesh, 9 SHP projects aggregating to 25.10 MW have been set up.
Apart from fiscal and financial incentives, technical support is extended on various aspects of small hydro through Alternate Hydro Energy Centre, IIT Roorkee and other technical institutions.
