The Kyrgyz National Council for Sustainable Development January 14 approved a national strategy for economic development in 2013-2017. President Almazbek Atambayev proposed the strategy December 7, after which various discussions led to substantial adjustments.

The country will push to expand its export potential during the next five years, he said, adding the strategy defines resources and the extent of funding for national projects called "locomotives of development" for the economy. Kyrgyzstan aims to become one of the 30 business-friendliest countries in the world and one of the 50 least corrupt by 2017, he said.

Participants included Atambayev, Prime Minister Zhantoro Satybaldiyev, Supreme Court Chairwoman Feruza Dzhamasheva, leaders of all parliamentary factions, General Prosecutor Aida Salyanova and various cabinet ministers.
