Consumption of bottled mineral water in Tunisia reached the end of 2012 nearly 1.1 billion liters, or about 800 million bottles, up 4.22% compared to 2011 (1 billion liters), according to the National Office of Spa and Hydrotherapy.

Peak consumption was recorded during the summer season (June to September), with a monthly average of 105 million liters, while the period of the lowest consumption (an average of 57 million liters) coincides with the months of January and February.

"Four licenses were granted by the Office in early 2013 for the creation of new projects, including two in the governorate of Siliana, one in Kairouan and one in Tataouine. These projects will mobilize a total investment of about 28 million dinars (MTD), and will, once they enter into operation, generate 161 direct employment positions," the same source said.

Tunisia has currently 12 companies operating in the sector of spas, with a total investment volume of 200 MTD, and approximately 3,000 jobs.

These companies represent 19 brands of mineral water, and operate twenty water sources spread throughout the territory.

The average consumption of the Tunisian in bottled water was estimated in 2012 at 105 liters against 44 liters in 2007 and 12 liters in 1995.
