US to see $ 4 bn available for green buildings
President Barack Obama and former President Bill Clinton announced $ 4 bn in federal and private green building investments on December 2.
The latest instalment of the Better Building Initiative will benefit both energy efficiency and job growth by way of a $ 2 bn commitment through a presidential memorandum to energy upgrades of federal buildings.
It will use long-term energy savings to pay for up-front costs and a $ 2 bn commitment from 60 chief executive officers, mayors, university presidents, and labour leaders for energy performance upgrades by a minimum of 20 % by 2020 in 1.6 bn sq feet of buildings.
