NATO Secretary-General said that NATO will boost its efforts to train local forces of the wider Middle East region and Northern Africa to fight against terrorism.

NATO will boost its efforts to train local forces of the wider Middle East region and Northern Africa to fight against terrorism, as this is the most efficient approach, the NATO Secretary-General said at the press conference Monday.

“One of the core messages of the NATO summit will be that NATO will do more to fight terrorism, to fight instability by working with partner countries in the wider Middle East region, North Africa to enable them to fight terrorism, because we really believe that one of our best weapons in the fight against terrorism, is to train local forces,” Jens Stoltenberg said.

He said that this is what the alliance is doing in Afghanistan and Jordan.

“We will soon inaugurate a new NATO center in Kuwait,” he said, adding that “this center will be an important platform for regional cooperation between the Gulf countries and NATO addressing what we can do to project stability.”

Stoltenberg was speaking ahead of the Warsaw NATO summit, which took place on July 8-9.
