Latin America accounts for 53% or 4.66bn euros (US$5.23bn) of Enel Green Power's (EGP) 2015-19 capital allocation.

Wind represents 57% of the allocation, solar 28%, hydropower 9% and geothermal 6%, according to an EGP presentation.

The Italian group said Latin America represents 50% of its 22.3GW gross pipeline compared to 19% in 2011 when the gross pipeline was 26.8GW.

Regional drivers include strong electricity demand growth and abundant resource availability, highlighted the company.

EGP's 2015 and 2016 forward sales reach 96% and 94%, respectively.

Latin America represented 53% of the group's projects in execution as of last month.

Projects in the region total 1,877MW with 708MW under construction and 1,169MW ready to build.

Wind accounts for 356MW of projects under construction in Latin America, with 118MW in Brazil, 100MW in Mexico, 88MW in Chile and 50MW in Brazil. The balance comes from 176MW solar in Chile, 12MW solar each in Brazil and Panama, 102MW hydro in Brazil and 50MW hydro in Costa Rica.

The bulk of ready-to-build capacity comes from wind, with 352MW in Brazil, 229MW in Mexico and 136MW in Chile. Brazil has 254MW and Chile 164MW of ready-to-build solar capacity, and there was 38MW of ready-to-build geothermal capacity in Chile.

EFP's Latin America net installed capacity in the first quarter totaled 1,879MW. Companywide net installed capacity reached 9,807MW.

Of regional capacity, wind accounted for 993MW (346MW Mexico, 340MW Chile, 283MW Brazil, 24MW Costa Rica); hydro 732MW (300MW Panama, 163MW Guatemala, 93MW Brazil, 92MW Chile, 53MW Mexico, 31MW Costa Rica); and solar 154MW in Chile.

In recent days, EGP connected solar plant Lalackama II (18MW) to Chile's grid, and launched construction of Chilean solar projects Carrera Pinto (97MW) and Pampa Norte (79MW).
